Tip Tuesday- The Fishtail Plait

It seems many of us envy long hair, it's hard to achieve, takes patience and it's even hard to maintain. We often hear those long locked loves saying ' I just don't know what to do with it, I tend to just shove it up in a bun' Well ladies, look no further, because here we have (once practiced) a very beautful alternative to a plait...

The Fish Tail Plait...

Here's a quick tutorial, any questions just ask, or pop into the salon for some advice.

Step 1: Begin by separating the hair into two; A(left) & B(right)
Step 2: Take a small section from the back of B and bring it round to meet A
Step 3: Do the same on the other side, take a small section from the back of A and bring it round to meet B
(see below what it should look like)

 It will look like this

Repeat these steps being A to B and B to A, it's a long process but worth the wait as once you get to the end you're left with a beautiful fishtail plait.

Weddings @HQ

Last year we had a really busy year of weddings, with some of the most beautiful locations being just round the corner from us at HQ we got to work in some stunning places and also with some of the lovliest brides. It's always an honor to work with ladies on such an important day in their lives and we were even more grateful to get such positive feedback from those we worked with. Here's some great feedback we received from bride Shelley when working with Freelance makeup artist Nina and hairdresser at HQ Sophia.

''I recently got married at East Quay, Whitstable and met the fabulous Nina and Sophia from Headquarters Tankerton when we attended a wedding fayre back in January.

I am not a huge make-up wearer and tend to turn my head upside down and blow dry it most days, rather than style it… So I was a little apprehensive about having ‘the works’ for my wedding day. Lots of friends said I should do it and that I’d feel special and pampered but I still had visions of heavy eye make-up and crazy hair styles and just not looking like myself.

So, feeling a little unsure I emailed HQ Tankerton and they got back to me straight away and encouraged me to come in for a trial with some examples of the styles I liked.

The trial was such fun, Nina and Sophia are so natural and friendly and they completely reassured me about letting them loose on my face and hair (a glass of two of fizz helped too!). They completely got the style and vibe I was after and I came away happy and excited about the big day.

I had a manicure and pedicure the day before the wedding and Nina and Sophia also did my bridesmaids hair and make-up, which made the morning of the wedding great fun and full of excited anticipation.

I will be recommending HQ Tankerton for bridal hair and make-up as well as their more general services. They are professional, friendly and hugely talented in their field.''

How hypnotherapy can help depression and anxiety

Depression is often a reaction to a distressing or traumatic event. The people and situations that are associated with the traumatic event in our lives are referred to as traumatic triggers.
An example is someone reporting, “I never was depressed before my father (mother, child, spouse, and best friend) died.” After a loved one passes on, the individual often has to deal with their belongings including their home, or now has to take on their responsibilities. Any of these can become traumatic triggers. If the person or family member who has lost the loved one does not have time to fully grieve the loss, and to process unfinished feelings about the person, depression may set in almost immediately. Other traumatic triggers include losing a job, divorce, or financial reversals such as bankruptcy or home foreclosure.

THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION
The following are some of the typical signs of depression that may take over slowly like a fog rolling in on what was previously a sunny day and now it is becoming darker with every minute.
• I can’t get out of bed in the morning. I just don’t have the same interest in things that I used to.
• I have body pains and I'm worried that I may have a serious illness like cancer, arthritis or diabetes
• I can’t seem to stop overeating and now I'm gaining weight . ...
so I have gone back to drinking and smoking cigarettes
• I'm having trouble sleeping at night and I'm exhausted.
• I cry at the drop of a pin, but mostly I feel numb.

Often these symptoms can be treated with drugs prescribed by your GP. Anti-depressants sleep medication, and perhaps a diet or stop smoking program will be prescribed. These treatment methods, of course, are aimed at symptom relief but don’t get down to treating the underlying cause of the depression. If the depressed person goes to a counsellor, they will talk about the feelings which may help for a while. Other therapists may try relaxation techniques combined with positive affirmations. There is a basic reason why these common responses to depression don’t really work: they do not address or resolve the deeper underlying causes of depression.

So, HOW DOES CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY TREAT DEPRESSION? 1. First, we drop down from the conscious mind, which is only 10% of the mind into the subconscious mind. Now we are addressing the whole person, 100% of the mind rather than just treating the symptoms.
2. People often have what Dr. Fritz Perls called “unfinished business” its something we have lost in the past or, accumulative losses such as a broken relationship, divorce, separation, death, losing your home, loss of a job ext: Those unresolved feelings, such as resentments, regrets, blame, anger, guilt, jealousy, and fear are stored in the body and must be released as soon as possible otherwise they become deeply buried beneath the orthodox treatments such as anti-depressant drugs. the addictive Clinical hypnotherapy works for depression because it removes the underlying basis of depression and completes the unfinished business that otherwise continues to recycle as self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviours.
3. With hypnotherapy, we can go down to the deepest level of these traumatic experiences, memories and stored emotions to release them from the mind and body. When the hypnotherapy treatment is completed, the client reports that their depression has lifted, that they have stopped the compulsive thoughts or behaviour, and that they are ready to resume living their lives again.
4. With each healing session of clinical hypnotherapy, we can replace the fearful repetitive thoughts that often haunt people following a traumatic experience. Positive affirmations now work because the underlying emotional release has been accomplished.
5. Hypnotherapy provides an effective way to access the individual’s ability to affect the physical body. Once self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviours have been resolved, the individual can begin to use hypnotic suggestibility to improve the body’s functioning. Hypnotherapy can be very helpful in correcting patterns of restless sleep, low energy or libido, headaches or chronic pain. And one can use hypnotherapy to increase motivation to exercise and eat properly.
Constant research has proved over and over again that with the correct Hypnosis Treatment and techniques, hypnotherapy can be a highly successful form of treatment for individuals with depression.

There are many fears and misunderstandings about the use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, and the myths and mystery that surround it are totally undeserved.
Hypnosis is usually induced by the use of the therapist's voice, though you are unlikely to actually feel hypnotised. There is no such thing as a 'hypnotised feeling', though many people find their senses to be far more alert than usual – you will certainly not 'lose control' at any time, nor can you be manipulated in anyway.
There is no form of unconsciousness and nobody can be made to do anything that they do not want to do; a person in hypnosis is aware of everything happening around them, aware of themselves and their therapist, and will retain a full and accurate memory of everything afterwards.
Hypnosis, a totally natural phenomenon, is simply a very comfortable and relaxed state during which it is quite easy to converse sensibly with the therapist. Almost anyone can enter the hypnotic state easily, with the exceptions of people that are showing symptoms of psychosis, very young children, and anybody under the influence of hard drugs or very large quantities of alcohol. It is inconceivable that any harm could befall anybody in this pleasant state.
Nobody can be hypnotised against their will. Hypnosis is not about control by the hypnotist. It is about working together so that the client can be empowered to create change in his or her life. Nobody can be forced to do anything against their will. The 'control' misconception appears to originate from stage hypnosis which funnily enough also involves people doing exactly what they want to be doing!!.

Mental health and hypnotherpay awareness

I’m going to be promoting Mental Health Stigmatisation, I shall be writing a column every week In the Tranquillity bythesea Facebook page. The weekly articles will be on the different types of Mental Health illness’s such as Anxiety, depression, Bi-polar, Obsessive Compulsive disorders (OCD), Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Attention Deficit Hypersensitive disorder (ADHD) Children’s Mental Health, Autism, Asperger’s syndrome (AS ) both in children and in adult’s and so much more. Hypnotherapy can help some of the disorders listed because it’s a natural state of selective, focused attention, and, even though it is 100% natural and normal, it remains one of the most fascinating phenomena of the human mind. Our ability to enter this unique state of consciousness opens the door to countless possibilities for healing, self-exploration and change. Hypnosis has been recognized for thousands of years and used for many purposes..............When you enter into the absorbed state of hypnosis, you can use your thoughts, talents and experiences in ways not usually available to us. With the help of Hypnosis we can develop innate, individual abilities that enable making desired changes in our thoughts, feelings and behaviours as possible. Hypnosis is used for the treatment of pain, depression, anxiety, stress, habit disorders, and many other psychological and medical problems, in fact, most of the above and more, However, it may not be useful for all psychological problems or for all clients. Hypnosis is also used in research with the goal of learning more about the nature of hypnosis itself, as well as its impact on sensation, perception, learning, memory, and physiology. Researchers also study the value of hypnosis in the treatment of physical and psychological problems............ have I caught your attention???

So, going back to the Mental Health disorders and the stigma associated with a poorly brain, I’m going to add some fun bits to the Column i.e. adding some personality tests for you to do with family and friends or, on your own......... True or False questions and some bizarre beliefs. .............. My first topic next week will be on Anxiety and Depression………….For most of us, we have, at some point, suffered from one or both of these symptoms, for most, after a couple of weeks the symptoms begin to subside and you slowly get back on your feet, for others, it’s the start of a very long downward spiral of despair , sadder still, many will not realise they are suffering from Depression or, they don’t want to acknowledge it…………….. SO, this is where you guys come in, I want the articles to stir up conversation, talk amongst your family, friends work colleagues, because someone in your group may be suffering symptoms of depression, they may be too scared and anxious to tell anyone because of the Stigma surrounding a Mental Health illness, The weekly articles will be written around Hypnosis and how it works and for Mental Health Awareness, it’s not written to suggest a diagnoses, it’s for all who are interested in learning and becoming aware of their own Mental health and well-being and not being shy about talking to someone about it (especially you men, buts that’s another article).... Perhaps even recognising that maybe someone you know is suffering from a disorder and is too scared to come forward............. I shall look forward to reading your own generalised stuff about Mental Health. If you have a personal question then please message me, it’s totally confidential…………….. I
So, Look out for my first column next week and don’t forget, Smile at the person next to you, it may be the kindest thing some has done for them all that day……………….

True or False?
Mental illnesses Don’t affect me?

The Tuck and Cover!

Style-wise there's a lot to deal with as winter sets in, the temperatures have dropped and the air pressures are changing, doing all sorts of things to our hair and skin. We're layering up and sometimes this can become troublesome for that well thought out hair style.

We think we have just the perfect solution for this and it may be something you're already familiar with....

The Tuck and Cover

Already congregating on the catwalks of 2014 the tuck and cover is becoming a big feature this season, with designs like Marc Jacobs and No.21 mastering the look.

We found not only this stunning collar but also blogger life-in-travel sporting the hair tuck

(source here)
To get it yourself all you have to do is slip your mid-lengths and ends into collars, scarves and necklines, it will give your locks immediate volume without the commitment of chopping it off or spending time working your hair.

There's something hiding around every corner: Beauty Express

I was in the salon last week and could help noticing how my eyebrows had strangely disappeared, all the sun had bleach them blonde and what was usually a light brown was almost non-existent blonde bushes surrounding my face, so I was relieved to find Nina's Express Beauty menu could help me out. Within minutes Nina had slotted me in and my invisible brows were tinted and back accompanying the rest of my face...phew!

Braided Bun

This stunning braided bun was created for a bridesmaid by Sofie but is so versatile it could work as a great look for festival goers or just those with a little time to go foraging for flowers! Its a look inspired by your own creativity so don't be afraid to experiment a little before you've got what feels great.

We picked up the floral elements at our neighbors Tankerton Flowers. Hayley provided us with the most beautiful purple tones to match the brides theme. We also used a hair band and some grips.

There was some prep involved before the style began, you could try making some pre-curls in the hair to help fix them in a more sculpted shape when you start placing them in a bun shape.

When creating the look at home it's good to start with a simple ponytail, Sofie placed this at the bottom center of the head however you can really play around with the height. She then plaited and pinned the rest of the doo, incorporating the flowers as she went. She fixed the whole style with Bedhead Masterpiece Shine Spray

Sofie also braided the front of the hair, going alone on this can be tricky if find french plaits tricky, we'll be doing a tutorial next week but in the meantime just try a simple plait across your hair line and clip behind the ear.

If you've got any questions or you're serious about trying to recreated this look on yourself or a friend contact Sofie via our email headquarterstankerton@yahoo.com she's in the Powder Room at HQ for bookings or simply to answer questions on this beautiful look.
