I once heard....

I can use mayonnaise in my hair as a conditioning treatment? 

This isn't something we'd do in the salon, in fact I don't think Victoria @ The Coffee Shop would be too happy if her condiments started going missing... but if you are looking for a low cost hair treatment then look no further than you kitchen cupboards!

We've heard that Yes! mayonaise can be effective in helping to restore moisture in dry hair as it contains protein rich egg yolks and a lot of healthy natural oils.

However we do recommend if you hair is really damaged and you're looking for a long term fix, do pop in to the salon as we've got some really great, scientifically tested products that will rehydrate your hair!

For those of you who are feeling the effects of using your straighteners, hair dryers and curling tongs we've got the conditioner for you!
 We've chosen L'Oreal Absolut Repair Cellular as our Product of the week. 
This conditioner is designed to repair and revitalize the damaged hair surface leaving it feeling soft and protected.

We're all slightly excited that the weathers been on the change this week.
Sniffing away the last of our winter blues we're happy to see or at least feel that Spring might be on the horizon..

The cold frosty winter weather outside and the warm dry climate of central heating has taken it's toll on our skin..especially our lips 

Lips are particularly prone to dryness at this time of year. Flaking and chapping can leave them sore and sensitive.

With a blend of shea butter, beeswax and jojoba oils,Eve Taylor's lip care provides deep

I once heard

'If you always use the same shampoo, eventually it will stop working'

This is a common 'myth' we hear about hair.. Some say your hair gets used to a product and you should change it.

Personally we think if a product has the effect on your hair that you like then stick with it, sometimes your hair may feel drier than usual or damaged; that can happen from time to time from heat, chemical processes, environment and your diet & health.We recommend that this is when you should consider changing your shampoo/conditioner.

With many clients finding it difficult to find something lightweight to style their hair with we thought we'd introduce you to Loreal's Metallic Gloss.

I once heard....

During Feburary we're going to be exploring the myths about hair! 

I once heard cutting your hair will make it grow faster....

'We'd all like to believe Repunzel is real but sadly the answer is no, it won't increase the speed of your hair growth, nor will tell the roots to grow quicker. What it will do is encourage stronger and healthier hair. A healthy head of hair can often appear longer as there are no damaged, dry or broken ends. The key to long, luscious and healthy hair is a visit to the salon every 8/12 weeks for a trim. In that visit you'll usually get some great hair care tips and a really good shampoo, condition and blow-dry making it definitely worth the trip.'

What's in my make up bag this week?

MAC Prime and Prep. 
Skin enhancer.
Neutralize.  

This yellow based product completely eradicates those areas that are showing red pigments and is great for this time of the year with skin that is dehydrated from central heating or chapped from snuffly noses. You can use it either under your foundation or alone and is super hydrating too with a SPF 35. I find just using a touch around the nose can transform your look from tired and cold to fresh and flawless! It retails at £23.00 but a little goes a long way, come into The Powder Room for a try.

LUSH, Lustre dusting powder. 

Price: £10.25 

This is a beautiful product, not one I'd use everyday but for those special occasions it works it's magic to engulf you in a cloud of gold, jasmine smelling lushness!! It's a highlighting/ dusting powder which is 100% vegan. You can use it with a powder puff for all over shimmeryness or as I like to use it, with a blusher brush. Just a sweeping at the top of the cheekbone. My only criticism would be the packaging as it only comes in a bottle form and feels a pot would be easier to use and wouldn't waste as much product. But overall this is a truly magical product that make me want to twirl around to the theme tune of a Disney film!!

HQ hits the Wedding Fairs!!

Being a local

We love keeping things local.
Not only does HQ serve great cuts and hair styles to the public, luxurious treatments and tasty coffee and cakes, it's also a great space for exhibiting local artwork. We've had various exhibitors over the past year and we're pleased have Liz Shedden on board. Being a proud Whitstable Local Liz's artwork tells a beautiful seaside tale and is a breath of fresh air in the salon.
