Nina's HANDi Work- The Manicure Routine

Step 1: To get a salon manicure down to a tee,  it's all in the nail preparation.  Always make sure hands are clean and use a good quality hand moisturiser.

Steph 2: Start by tidying the cuticles without damaging them, file and buff.

Step 3: ALWAYS!! use a good quality base coat.  We use OPI Base coat for natural nails.

Step 4; Apply 2 coats of polish making sure there is a free edge at the base of the nail to get a clean professional line and to get the true depth of the colour.

Step 5: To complete the polish stage use a a quick dry top coat and also if you're in a hurry use a freeze dry spray.

Tip Tuesday

Although we adore the beach look and some rough curls, there really is nothing better that a super sleek style.
For seriously straight hair we've been using TIGI's Bed Head Straightening Out Cream.

Simply spray evenly throughout damp hair

To obtain a great finish blow dry your hair to smooth the cuticle, work section by section to avoid damaging and prepare yourself for 48 hours of smooth stunningly straight hair.

Make a start to finishing a great look

Lipstick can be a great finishing touch to any look, but you must make sure that it is applied correctly.. it's great to start with soft, smooth lips that are moisturized and hydrated. If you have rough and dead skin on your lips it may be necessary to take and old soft toothbrush and rub it gently over your lips, this will help remove ay dry flakes of skin.

Next week we'll be talking you through the best way to apply lip liner, in the meantime, check out Sofie's Review on her favourite lipstick

Some top tips on creating luscious locks!

1. Apply Techni. Art Liss Control throughout towel-dried hair, you'll only need a small amount but make sure you cover from root to tip. Comb through to make sure the product is evenly distributed and depending on your desired look either blow dry or leave to dry naturally.

2. If you wish you get super locks, like those above begin by Blow-drying the hair in the direction you want it to lie. Lift hair up at the roots as you blow-dry to add more volume.

3. Begin curling the hair by taking small sections, using either straighteners or curling tongs. A great tip used by many of our stylists is rollling each curl up and pin and leave to cool, this should help your curls last longer.

4. Once you’ve curled all of your hair and left it to cool for 15 minutes. Gently rake your hands through the curls and try using Techni. Art Anti Frizz for a long lasting strong hold.

Well, well, well....we made it through another British winter
(Whitstable winter to be precise!)

Spring is finally on its way and our poor weather beaten bodies are in need of some R&R and updating.  Hair, make up and nails are all buzzing with new colours, trends and delights that the new season brings so why not come in to Headquarters for one of our Pro Team in all these areas give you the treatment and update we all so deserve and need.

Nothing provides instant beauty gratification quite like a little splurge on something fabulous to update your look. Investing in a few fun additions to your make up bag can update and work wonders.  A brighter blush is a great start. “This season is all about cream blushes!” agrees our Make Up Artists Sofie and Nina.

Nars have a great range, Laos is our current favourite as is Mac's Cremeblend blush Britwit.  There are so many colours to choose from just be brave and embrace the cream blush - Start on the apples of your cheeks and blend the product in a circular motion.”

Sofie also suggests using a highlighter like Benefit’s ‘Watt’s Up!’ to bring out cheekbones and brighten inner corners of eyes.

Tip Tuesday

Some top tips on Dandruff!

Dandruff is a common problem that causes flaking and itching of the scalp.

1. Avoid using a lot of hair products as they will build up on the scalp and make the problem worse!

2. It is common to think that dandruff is caused because of dry skin on the scalp, however this is not completely true. Try to avoid using oily base products as this will build up on the scalp, again making the problem worse.

3. Try including some tasty anti-inflammatory foods into your diet that are high in omega 3 and fatty acids, these can be found in salon and nuts. Fatty Acids make up 3% of the hair shaft so are really important to the hairs health!

Tip Tuesday!

#Tip Tuesday - Perfect Brows

Brows are there to frame the face - if you've over plucked them, persevere and grow them first.  Get them professionally groomed at The Beauty Rooms HQ as your first port of call for some professional brow action, then keep those beauties looking fresh and fashion forward at home with the following routine

  • Comb:                        Combing the hairs upwards will reveal which hairs are falling outside the target shape of the eyebrows.
  • Trim:                          With a small and sharp pair of scissors, trim the hairs outside the shape over your eyebrows until you have a neat line at the top.
  • Tweeze:                     Use a slanted pair of tweezers to pluck any hairs that fall below the shape under your eyebrows; you can also pluck any hairs that look out of place around the eyebrows.
  • Fill:                             Using a small angled brush, fill in any gaps in your brows with a powder that matches closely the colour of your natural eyebrow hair. Tip: Brushing the powder upwards will give you more                                  realistic-looking eyebrows, as the powder will blend in better with the hairs.
  • Highlight:                 Outline the shape of your eyebrows (top and bottom) with a white eyeliner pencil. This will create a contrast that makes your eyebrows stand out and it will also give the illusion of a mini ‘eye lift.
